Worship

“Worship is the defining event in the church.”

This sentence, from the vision statement of the church, expresses the high regard we place on corporate worship.  Something amazing happens when God’s people come together to sing his praise, declare the greatness of who He is, confess their sins, receive his grace, and be instructed by the Holy Scriptures.  No program, activity or event within the church compares with the priority of worship.  God is great and greatly to be praised.

At Glasgow, we hold to what we call an “ancient-future” model of worship.  To be ancient means that we want to stay connected to and learn from historic forms.  God’s people have worshipped in a variety of rich and vibrant ways and styles throughout the years.  To be future means that we never stop experimenting and exploring new forms.  We are connected to our heritage and yet looking toward what is next.

Though the styles and forms may change, what never changes is the content.  We are a sinful people in need of a mighty savior.  Worship is about exalting Christ as that savior, looking back to our redemption that was accomplished on the cross and is being applied to our lives by the Holy Spirit, as we long and wait for Christ to return as king forever.

While worship occurs within the church in a variety of settings, the predominate place is our Sunday mornings services.
