Youth Basketball
2010 League Rosters and Schedules Now Available
Glasgow Church’s Youth Basketball offers a unique combination of technical instruction and fun gameplay for boys and girls ages 6-14.
Players of all abilities from first time on the court to experienced ball-handlers and rebounders will be challenged to improve and have a great time doing so.
Instructional League for players ages 6-14
This league’s focus is around having fun and learning the game. Referees are not used, scores are not kept, and wins and losses are not tracked. Emphasis is placed on the development and application of basic basketball skills, such as dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense and shooting, and team play in a semi-competitive environment. Coaches are encouraged to stop play and provide intermittent instruction as needed. Practice and games are held consecutively on Saturdays (or Tuesday evenings for older players) allowing players to immediately apply new skills in a controlled play format (a 30-minute practice followed by 30-minute game).
FAQ
What are the dates for the season?
The season runs for 8 consecutive weeks. For players ages 6-11, the season will run each Saturday starting January 9 and ending February 27th. For ages 12-14, will play on Tuesday evenings instead of Saturdays. We do expect this to be the case, though the exact ages that will play on Tuesday are dependent upon total registration.
How much does your league cost?
We strive to keep our league fees as low as possible. The early bird rate (Dec. 1 deadline) for our league is $28 per player. After December 1st, the rate increases by $8. If the player does not have a jersey (red and white reversible) there is an additional $20 fee. Included in the league fee is a medal of participation, team picture and an awards ceremony at the end of the season.
What is the age criteria ?
Team ages are based on the age as of January 1, 2009. For example, if the player is 7 on January 1st, but turns 8 on January 22nd, she or he would still play in the 7 year old division. This is also true for our 3 on 3 tournament in March. Even if the player has a birthday during the regular season, she or he can still play in the previous age bracket for the tournament.
How can I help?
Our league could not operate without your help. We depend upon your assistance to maintain our low cost. There are various opportunities to serve including setup and breakdown each Saturday, coaching or running the concession stand.
What equipment does my child need?
The only required equipment is a ”GRPC” jersey (reusable from year to year). All other equipment is provided by Glasgow Church and included with your league fees.
How do I register?
Register online or print the .pdf and return it to the church office.
What is your weather policy?
Winter weather can be unpredictable. Weather notices will be posted on the website as early as possible. For our league, if there is one weather cancellation, we will not make it up. If there is a second cancellation, we will make it up either by adding a week or by playing double-headers one day.
When is your 3 on 3 tournament?
We hold an annual 3 on 3 tournament each March. Players create their own teams, create their own shirts to use for jerseys and have a great time. The tournament is open to all, whether they participated in our league or not. This is a fun filled day of basketball. Each participant receives a T-shirt. This year’s tournament will be on Saturday, March 13th.
