In His Grip – Dr. Chuck F. Betters
Dear Members and Friends of Glasgow Church:
I have become increasingly more aware of a vital missing ingredient in our church. Consider what is missing – Is it good music? Far from it! We have (arguably) the finest music program in the region. Our musicians are committed, talented and lead us every week through personal sacrifice of time and energy. We love them all and appreciate all they do to lead us into the presence of Jesus. Is it our tech team? Hardly! These folks put in countless hours behind the scenes to take the message of this awesome church literally into the whole world. Is it the preaching? Well perhaps; but we will leave that one up to God.
We have great facilities, faithful givers, a great vision for kingdom-building, Godly leaders and tons of land. We have simplified our programs to streamline the use of man-power. We have great plans for the fall. Our staffing is coming together. A new campus site has been launched – I could go on and on!
But something is missing; something we desperately need to start doing if we are to make a significant difference in others’ lives. We need stories, lots of stories, good old fashioned stories that speak to our worship. Let me explain. If the Gospel is anything, it is practical. By this I mean, if the proclamation of the Word and the worship of God is effective in your everyday life outside of Sunday mornings, then we all need to hear how. The word we have used in the past to describe this is “testimony.” But that word does not do justice to what I am asking you to provide. Jesus used stories to drive home His point. He vividly illustrated the life-changing power of His message with stories, real live stories of human beings trusting and believing in His precious promises.
So, I want to tell your story. Actually, I want you to tell your story. Not everyone can stand up in front of a large crowd and tell their story. Here is what I want to do. Send me an email at drbetters@glasgowchurch.com if you are interested in telling people how Jesus has or is making a difference in your life. Maybe you are going through some trial and want to glorify God through it. Maybe God has taught you a valuable lesson the hard way. Or, maybe you just want to tell everyone how much you love Him.
I will schedule you for a taping where we can sit and chat in our studio about the difference the Gospel has made in your life. Editing makes this REALLY easy. I am looking for the dramatic story as well as the not-so-dramatic story. I am looking for your story. We can help you tell that story. After all, this is the “so what” of the Gospel. This is the life of God’s people beyond Sunday.
In His Grip,
PB

I have a small praise and story about being a witness/missionary to my neighbors. Before I moved here to Elkton(5 yrs ago), I had the privelege of loving my neighbor family from El Salvador while they lived next door for a year. The father went home with God in his life and a call to minister. Two years later I had the blessing of being in their El Salvadorian home and hearing how God is using their family. Recently, I had two Jehova’s Wintess people stop and I just happened to be on my door step reading my Bible. We had quite a discussion about whether they knew Christ and were ready for eternity, should they have a stroke and die in my yard. Little did I know until a couple hours later, my neighbor who works at home next door, was listening in his office. This is an on-going witness and loving my neighbor for Christ. I AM EXPECTING that family to see their need for Christ in their lives. For 3 years I and God have had a Beth Moore Bible study in my home, and this past year 4 ladies came from my neighborhood! God is working!! I hope I have the opportunity to see the harvest!! People need the Lord! Sharon
Oh, may I add a PS??????
The next best thing to getting saved or finding Christ, is being retired!! What a blessing it is to have time for people!!
