In His Grip – Dr. Chuck F. Betters
Dear Members and Friends of Glasgow Church:
Over the summer months your staff and session have been gearing up for what will prove to be an exciting fall. A master staffing plan is under session review along with a master site plan for the entire 80 plus acres we now own. As you have been regularly made aware, the fall $3 million project will include a variety of needs and Kingdom building projects. Stone’s Throw is off to a great start with 10% growth of NEW people (and not merely transplants from Glasgow) already realized. A team has already visited Nicaragua and they have identified a possible partnership, although that has not yet been firmed up. I could say a lot more about the various “home” projects but young Chuck has been regularly keeping you abreast about that.
What I am most excited about is the transition in staffing that has and is taking place.
- Over the past few weeks we have hired a new Children’s Coordinator in Vicki Mullen. Her first task was to develop a strong Kid’s Church. Already she has made some tremendous inroads. Also, on the drawing board is a retooled Sunday school for your kids in addition to the Kid’s Church during the worship hour. Email Vicki at missvicki@glasgowchurch.com to help out.
- We have hired Brian Cannelongo as our Sports and Recreation Director with Guy Cooper as his intern.
- The position of Woman’s Ministries Coordinator has been created and hopefully soon we will have someone who is qualified in place.
- This past week, the session examined our Business Manager, Scott Winchester, concerning his call to enter into full time pastoral ministry. We have approved his call and will soon send his name on to the Heritage Presbytery to come under care as he completes seminary and prepares for licensure and ordination. This means Scott will make a gradual transition (the timing to be determined with session oversight) out of his role as our Business Manager and into a role where there is a plethora of areas where we need ministerial help. This also means we will be looking for an accountant in the months ahead.
- GCA is actively searching for a school principal to replace Sherry, our interim principal, who will retire after the next school year.
- Our First Touch Ministry is now under the direction of my wife Sharon as a volunteer. The Connections Café is one critical piece of this vital ministry. The pre-worship hour from 9:30 to 10:15 is a great time to introduce your friends, family, and neighbors to others in the church so that they will feel at home when worship begins. Watch for updates on this exciting new ministry. Email Sharon at sharbett@aol.com if you are interested in helping out.
If you would like to apply for any of these positions please forward your resume to Chuck L. Betters at clbetters@glasgowchurch.com.
In His Grip,
PB
